Panel Cooler — Herambh Coolingz

A panel cooler removes heat from an electrical enclosure without letting the surrounding air inside it. Also called a panel air conditioner, it is the equipment that keeps the electronics in a control panel within their rated temperature while the enclosure stays sealed. Herambh Coolingz manufactures panel coolers for Indian industry from Aurangabad, Maharashtra.

Electrical panels heat up because the devices inside them are never perfectly efficient. A sealed panel traps that heat, raising internal temperature until components derate or fail. A panel cooler takes the heat out and keeps the seal intact.

Why Electronics Need Cool Air

Every component in a panel has a maximum ambient temperature, and reliability falls as that limit is approached. Drives reduce their output, PLCs misread signals, and contactors can drop out when the panel gets too hot.

Keeping the internal air cool is therefore not a comfort measure but a reliability measure, and it directly affects how long the control gear lasts and how often the line stops.

Fan and Filter or Refrigerated Cooling

A fan and filter unit moves filtered ambient air through the panel. It is cheap and simple, but it only works when the outside air is cooler than the target internal temperature, and it lets some dust and humidity in.

A refrigerated panel cooler removes heat by refrigeration and keeps the internal air separate from the plant atmosphere, so it works even in hot, dusty or humid environments where filtered ventilation would fail.

How a Panel Cooler Works

A compressor, condenser, expansion device and evaporator form a refrigeration circuit. The evaporator cools the air inside the panel, while the condenser rejects the heat to the outside air. The two air paths never mix, so the cabinet stays closed.

A thermostat controls the compressor to hold the internal temperature, and condensate that forms on the evaporator is drained away rather than collecting inside the panel.

Where Panel Coolers Are Fitted

Panel coolers are found on CNC machines, welding sets, injection moulding machines, packaging equipment and process control cabinets. They are also used on outdoor kiosks and on plant floors where the ambient air is too hot, too dusty or too humid for filtered ventilation.

Anywhere a sealed enclosure contains heat-generating electronics and the surroundings are hostile, a panel cooler is the dependable answer.

Sizing a Panel Cooler

Sizing needs the total heat generated inside the panel, the outside ambient temperature, the internal temperature required and the surface area of the enclosure that can reject some heat on its own. The heat load drives the selection, not the physical size of the box.

Choosing with a modest margin keeps the cooler from running continuously at full output on the hottest day, which improves both durability and energy use.

Construction and Mounting

Panel coolers are built in sheet steel with a durable finish, and are mounted on the side, top or door of the enclosure according to space and access. The external air filter is removable for cleaning without opening the panel.

Installation is straightforward, and the unit is supplied with the thermostat and drain arrangements that typical installations require.

Maintenance and Long Life

Service centres on the external filter and condenser coil, which must be kept clear of dust and debris. In dirty plants the cleaning interval is short; in clean rooms it can be much longer. Nothing inside the panel needs attention.

Because the panel stays closed, internal electronics are protected from contamination as well as heat, and the service burden sits entirely on the outside of the enclosure.

Choosing the Right Cooling Approach

Where the ambient air is clean and cooler than the target internal temperature, a fan and filter unit may be adequate and cheap. Where that is not true, or where dust and humidity are a risk, a refrigerated panel cooler is the more reliable choice.

Herambh Coolingz builds panel coolers for continuous industrial duty, sized on the real heat load and the site conditions rather than on a nominal rating.

Comparing Panel Cooling Methods

A fan and filter unit is inexpensive and simple, but it can only cool the panel when the surrounding air is cooler than the target internal temperature, and it admits whatever the surrounding air carries. In a hot plant room or a dusty shop floor those limits are quickly reached.

A refrigerated panel cooler keeps the enclosure sealed, so it works regardless of ambient temperature and does not import dust, oil mist or humidity. That reliability is the reason sealed panels with sensitive drives almost always use refrigeration rather than ventilation.

Tell Herambh Coolingz your enclosure size, internal heat load and ambient conditions, and we will recommend a panel cooler for reliable protection.
